Found the right car at the right monthly rental? Before you order, check who’s paying for the servicing, maintenance and tyres.
Adding maintenance to your car lease can make covered running costs easier to budget for. But there are different levels of cover, and choosing the right one starts with understanding what you’re paying for.
At National Vehicle Solutions, we can help you compare the maintenance options available with your personal or business lease. Here’s what to consider when looking at a VWFS-funded agreement.
A service package isn’t the same as full maintenance
“Service pack” is often used as a general description, but the package name matters. Service Only covers scheduled servicing. Service and Maintenance adds eligible maintenance items and repairs. Service, Maintenance and Tyres adds eligible tyre cover.
Ask for the exact package name on your quotation. That makes it much easier to compare offers and understand which costs remain yours.
Is adding maintenance worth the extra cost?
It depends on the package price, your mileage, the contract length and the covered work your car needs during that time. Predictable budgeting may be valuable to you, but maintenance does not guarantee a saving.
Ask for maintained and non-maintained quotations using the same vehicle, mileage, contract length and payment profile. Compare the total extra amount payable, including any change to the initial rental, rather than looking only at the monthly difference.
Don’t assume tyres are included
If tyre cover matters to you, make sure it is specifically included. Ask which tyre specification is covered, how replacements are approved and what happens if you get a puncture or damage a tyre.
A package with tyres still has exclusions. Getting those details upfront helps you avoid relying on cover your agreement does not provide.
What about maintenance for an electric lease car?
When comparing electric car leasing options, ask for the service schedule for your exact model. Then check what the maintenance package includes and consider your expected mileage.
Choose the package based on the vehicle and how you use it. The broadest package will not automatically be the best value for every driver.
Five questions to ask before you decide
- Which maintenance package is included in my quote?
- What is the total additional cost over the lease?
- Are tyres, MOTs and roadside assistance included?
- Which exclusions matter for my car and mileage?
- Who do I contact to book and authorise work?
