Understanding battery sizes and driving range

A bigger battery can offer more flexibility, but it is not always the best choice for your budget. Start with your normal mileage, your longer journeys and where you will charge.

What does kWh mean?

Battery capacity is measured in kWh. Total capacity describes the complete battery pack. Usable capacity is the energy available for driving, with a protected buffer reserved by the vehicle.

What does WLTP range mean?

WLTP is a standardised test used to compare vehicles. It is not a guarantee of how far you will travel. Cold weather, motorway speeds, heating, passengers and driving style can reduce your actual range.

Figures checked on 30 October 2026. Ranges below are official WLTP combined figures unless marked estimated. Specifications vary by trim, wheels and model year. Names such as 60 and 85 do not necessarily describe battery capacity. Confirm the exact vehicle specification before ordering.

COMPACT ELECTRIC SUV

Skoda Epiq

A smaller electric SUV with useful everyday space. The Epiq is worth considering for commuting, town driving and households that want an EV without moving to a large family car.

Battery sizes and driving range

Version Usable battery WLTP range
Epiq 40 37kWh Around 190 miles — estimated
Epiq 55 52kWh Up to 272 miles

Compare the 40 for shorter daily journeys and the 55 if you regularly travel further or want more flexibility between charges. The 40 is listed as coming soon.

Benefits

  • Compact proportions suit town driving and tighter parking spaces.
  • Five seats and a 475-litre boot provide useful everyday practicality.
  • Two battery options let you balance range against budget.

Things to consider

  • Check rear passenger space and luggage fit if you regularly travel fully loaded.
  • The smaller battery means more frequent charging on longer trips.
  • Indicative delivery is Q1 2027, as advised on 30 October 2026, subject to confirmation when ordering.

The NVS take A sensible starting point if you want a compact electric car and can plan ahead for delivery.

EVERYDAY FAMILY FLEXIBILITY

Skoda Elroq

The Elroq balances family-friendly practicality with manageable SUV dimensions. Its battery choices give you options for daily driving, longer journeys or stronger performance.

Battery sizes and driving range

Version Battery: usable / total WLTP range
Elroq 60 58kWh / 61kWh Up to 280 miles
Elroq 85 79kWh / 84kWh Up to 372 miles
Elroq vRS 77kWh / 82kWh Up to 346 miles

The 60 is worth comparing for everyday mileage. The 85 provides the longest published range here, while the vRS prioritises performance and all-wheel drive.

Benefits

  • A practical five-seat SUV layout suits daily family use.
  • The 85 offers longer-range capability without moving to the larger Enyaq.
  • A choice of trims lets you prioritise equipment, styling or performance.

Things to consider

  • Compare the Enyaq if carrying space is your main priority.
  • The smaller battery can mean more charging stops on long journeys.
  • Higher trims and performance versions can increase the monthly rental.

The NVS take A strong starting point for households balancing practicality, range and overall vehicle size.

WLTP combined figures vary by trim, wheels and model year. Real-world range depends on your journeys and driving conditions.

FAMILY SPACE COMES FIRST

Skoda Enyaq SUV

The Enyaq SUV deserves a place on your shortlist if passenger comfort and carrying space come first. Its upright body shape makes it worth considering for pushchairs, shopping and holiday luggage.

Battery sizes and driving range

Version Battery: usable / total WLTP range
Enyaq 60 58kWh / 61kWh Up to 283 miles
Enyaq 85 79kWh / 84kWh Up to 378 miles
Enyaq 85x 77kWh / 82kWh Up to 356 miles
Enyaq vRS 77kWh / 82kWh Up to 350 miles

The 85 has the longest published range in this table. The 85x and vRS offer all-wheel drive, with the vRS placing greater emphasis on performance.

Benefits

  • The upright SUV body suits family luggage and bulkier items.
  • Several battery and drivetrain options help match the car to your journeys.
  • Available comfort features make it worth considering for regular longer trips.

Things to consider

  • Check its dimensions against your driveway and usual parking spaces.
  • Five seats will not suit households needing a third row.
  • All-wheel drive and performance upgrades do not automatically deliver more range.

The NVS take Put the Enyaq SUV near the top of your list if you need five seats and prioritise usable family space.

A SLEEKER TAKE ON THE FAMILY EV

Skoda Enyaq Coupe

Prefer a more flowing roofline? The Enyaq Coupe offers a distinctive alternative to the upright SUV. It retains five doors, but checking rear headroom and luggage fit is particularly important.

Battery sizes and driving range

Version Battery: usable / total WLTP range
Coupe 85 77kWh / 82kWh Up to 367 miles
Coupe 85x 77kWh / 82kWh Up to 358 miles
Coupe vRS 77kWh / 82kWh Up to 354 miles

The 85 provides the longest published range here. Compare the 85x and vRS if all-wheel drive or stronger performance matters more to you than maximum distance between charges.

Benefits

  • A flowing roofline provides a distinctive alternative to the SUV.
  • Five doors retain everyday passenger access.
  • Different versions let you compare equipment, styling and performance.

Things to consider

  • Check rear headroom and the fit of taller luggage.
  • Compare like-for-like quotes to see what the Coupe adds to your rental.
  • Do not assume its battery and range match an SUV with a similar model name.

The NVS take Choose the Coupe because you prefer its design, after checking that its space and monthly rental work for you.

UP TO SEVEN SEATS

Skoda Peaq

The Peaq is the flagship choice in this comparison. With seating for up to seven, it is worth investigating when a five-seat electric car no longer meets your household’s needs.

Battery sizes and driving range

Version Battery: usable / total WLTP range
Peaq 90 / 90x 86kWh / 91kWh Model range up to 395 miles*

Both the 90 and all-wheel-drive 90x use the larger battery. The 395-mile headline is the maximum across the model range, not a figure that applies to every version.

A smaller 63kWh total / 59kWh usable battery has also been announced internationally. Confirm UK availability and UK range before including it in your lease comparison.

Benefits

  • Seating for up to seven provides flexibility for larger households.
  • Its larger format gives you more ways to balance passengers and luggage.
  • Available premium comfort features suit drivers seeking a more upmarket family EV.

Things to consider

  • Check parking spaces and manoeuvring room against its larger dimensions.
  • Using all seven seats reduces the space available for luggage.
  • A flagship model means a higher budget commitment. Confirm equipment, seating and delivery timing before ordering.

The NVS take The model to investigate if seven-seat flexibility is a real requirement for your next electric car.

Compare the complete quote
